In 1988, Dr. Parr moved MASA to Morristown, New Jersey -- his parents' home -- and founded the first cardiovascular surgery program in the region. In the nine years since Dr. Parr and MASA came to New Jersey, the practice has grown from two surgeons to ten. MASA currently has the largest volume of any program in the state of New Jersey, performing 2300 operations annually at Morristown Memorial Hospital. In addition to being president of MASA, Dr. Parr is chairman of cardiovascular surgery for Atlantic Health Systems (AHS), a health organization for the northern New Jersey region. Dr. Parr and MASA provide cardiovascular care in two New Jersey hospitals: Morristown Memorial Hospital, in Morristown, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Dr. Parr also serves as an associate professor of Clinical Surgery at the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. An active contributor to surgical literature, he stays abreast of developing medical trends through his heavy involvement with medical societies and conferences. He is, at present, the President of the Society for Thoracic Surgical Education. Dr. Parr is an expert at heart valve surgery, preferring to repair the patient's own valve whenever possible. He is also well known for his skill at surgical "redo's," or operating on patients who have had prior heart surgery operations. Dr. Parr's surgical signature is his ambidextrous operating style. Among his many awards, Dr. Parr has been selected from 1994 to 2000 as one of New Jersey's Top Doctors, New Jersey Monthly Magazine. (New Jersey doctors themselves select the winners, voting for their peers.) He has also been selected as one of the Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area from 1999 through 2001. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Parr has been an avid fly fisherman since he learned how to walk. He also loves travel, scuba diving, sailing, and wine - and vacations that combine them all.
